The two Augusta, GA, Interest Paid stamps paying interest to the standard interest payment dates that occurred during the war may partially explain this note's terrific condition. It was likely held by a bank, insurance company, or wealthy individual and never saw circulation, spending the war safely ensconced in a safe or strong box being brought out only to have its interest paid. At some point in nearly the last 165 years, this note picked up some incredibly gentle and limited handling earning it a conservative About Uncirculated 53 grade from PMG. Most impressively, this survivor comes with no negative comments or the less-preferred 'net' designation quite a few survivors have. Enjoy an attractive and problem-free example of a highly-collectible design!
