The $500 denomination was reintroduced in 1864 due to rising inflation. It was, surprisingly, one of the few openly patriotic designs used, incorporating a portrait of the beloved General Stonewall Jackson, along with the Confederate Great Seal and national banner. General Jackson died from wounds several days after being hit by friendly fire at Chancellorsville in 1863. This note has a luxuriant deep tint and will make a superior addition to the collection fortunate enough to add it.
