$1 1928 Legal Tender, Fr. 1500 Red Seal Funny Back Puerto Rico Fine

This Series 1928 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr. 1500, features George Washington’s portrait, red Treasury seal and serial numbers, and the distinctive “Funny Back” reverse with its bold ONE lettering. The only small-size $1 United States Note series, this iconic type has an unusual history: although dated 1928, it was printed in 1933, with much of the issue held in Treasury storage before release in Puerto Rico during 1948–1949.

Offered in Fine condition, this affordable circulated example has a small split at the top center, as shown in the photographs. Its circulation wear reflects time spent in commerce, while its distinctive design and Puerto Rico connection provide lasting historical interest. An accessible opportunity to add this essential type to a small-size collection or explore the history of America’s red-seal currency.
