This is an exciting and scarce Red Seal from the Old Detroit National Bank in Detroit, Michigan. In fact, it is just one of two $10 Red Seals known on the bank, and only 4 others exist in different denominations (2x $5 and 2x$20.) It has an incredible bank name and great eye-appeal!
However, its real "claim to fame" is that it is a replacement large size National Bank Note. The BEP used a distinctive old style font in the 1903-20 era to produce replacement notes with make-up sheets that have identical serial numbers as the sheets that were being replaced. The replacement sheets were made with the help of a "paging machine." The earlier font for replacements has a "tighter" appearance when compared to the later font.
