$10,000 1900 Gold Cert Fr. 1225h TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR GOLD Survived Famous Fire PMG EF 40

Previously stored in a postal storage facility in Washington D.C. until late one night in 1935 when a fire erupted that required resources from neighboring towns. In an effort to contain the fire, the firefighters tossed seemingly unimportant papers out the window. Amongst the papers, included several $10,00 Gold Certificates. Given their exposure to the heat and water within the facility, many come with heavy and objectionable staining. We're pleased to report this example has clean paper and a spectacular look from both sides. In the era, it was not uncommon for tellers to store banknotes on a spindler, rather than inside a cash drawer. As such, that's where this note spent a little time in a previous life and is noted on the back of the holder. This note has been cancelled and is not redeemable as legal tender which allows collectors an affordable opportunity to secure an ultra-high denomination for a fraction of its FRN counterpart that shares the denomination.
