$1 1928-E Silver Certificate Star, Fr. 1605*, KEY TO SERIES, PMG Very Fine 25

*-A Block. The 1928-E series is a unique type for the $1 Silver Certificates, with two lines of text (THIS CERTIFICATE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE) on the left side, on top of the treasury seal. While scarce as a regular note, star notes are a completely different story, as very few were issued and this is one of the most difficult small size stars in any grade.
Just thirteen stars are recorded in the current census for the 1928E Silver Certificate, indicating just how rare this issue is as a replacement. Auction appearances are few and far between, with an example appearing at public auction perhaps two or three times at most. Several of the known examples are problem-notes, and most are in well-circulated condition. This particular example has spent a little time in circulation, but is entirely problem-free, with good eye-appeal for the technical grade. An important opportunity for the specialist.
