A wonderful note with great visual appeal, this note is darkly printed with rich colors on sparkling white paper with decent margins. That notes from the Civil War era have survived at all, no less in premium condition, is a minor miracle.
The United States issued its first federal paper money in 1861, with the lowest denomination issued a $5. As such, it was not until one year later, this Fr. 16, 1861 Ace was issued as America's First One Dollar note. This is historically significant and preserved with pristine eye-appeal.
A less-attractive PMG 50 just sold for more than $2k in May 2025. Save a few hundred bucks and get the better-looking note!
