Serial Number 1 Atlanta, NY - $5 1929 Ty. 1 The Atlanta National Bank Ch. # 12071 PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
Officers Fred J. Land and Hyatt C. Hatch guided this Steuben County institution from the end of the Third Charter period into the small size era. From its inception in 1921 until the end of the note-issuing period, this was the only bank in town that printed notes, and all were the $5 denomination. Nine small size notes are known.
In years past, serial number one notes from the same sheet in the A, D, and E positions have surfaced and sold, but each of them are AU. This C position note, bearing number C000001A, was obviously well protected in the middle of the sheet. The margins are wide with excellent centering noted. Cavernous embossing, crackling fresh paper, and vivid ink colors all validate the assigned Gem grade. This is a real peach and a wonderful example of a "misplaced town" name.
