Of the more than 12,000 banks that issued currency under this system, only 278 of them were Michigan National Banks, from Adrian to Ypsilanti. What's more, only about 14,000 Michigan National Bank Notes have been reported within currency circles.
This is new to the census bringing the total of $5 Value Backs to now just six examples for the bank with the finest known being a PMG VF 25. As the images show, this note has spent some time in circulation before being pulled to be appreciated by the collecting community, but during its time in commerce it picked up an edge nick and small area of internal weakness along the center fold that becomes vible when backlit, but otherwise is well-concealed and not uncommon for the condition.
Earlier this year (Feb. 2025) a $5 Value Back (graded VF) from The Miner's National Bank of Ishpeming, MI sold for just shy of $1300. We're pleased to offer this one quite a bit cheaper.
