The government seemed to use Treasury/Coin Notes in the 1890s to honor Civil War Generals. In this case, the honoree was General George H. Thomas, best remembered as the "Rock of Chickamauga" for his stout defensive stand that allowed an orderly retreat of other Union forces who would ultimately win the Battle of Chattanooga. This is a lovely example of this Open Back Treasury Note that has wonderful color and fully original paper surfaces.
