$10,000 1900 Gold Certificate Fr.1225c TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR Survived Fire RARE PCGS EF 40

+

A scarcer Friedberg number for this unredeemable design is offered here, with the census listing only 41 serial numbers as compared to 332 for Fr. 1225h. This example was payable to the Farmers & Mechanics Bank of Philadelphia, PA and dated Nov. 9, 1908. The usual hole punch cancels are present, and this piece is housed in a holder that comments small edge and internal tears which is nothing shy of stupid when reviewing the piece. Let's just chalk the comments up to a new grader wanting to leave their mark on this note. This note was one of the many present at the five alarm Washington, DC Old Post Office fire of December 13, 1935. Firefighters tossed many of these notes along with other combustible material from the windows of a large filing room on the sixth floor, while the lucky onlookers below were able to pick the notes up and spirit them away.

An elusive example of an ultra-high denomination that easily suprasses the common varieties, but doesn't 'break the bank' to acquire.

Ten thousand dollar gold certificates are always popular; however, we've sold four in the last 45 days so these might be gaining some popularity amongst the collecting community as one of summer's toughest, but 'must have' notes.  Have it delivered to you for $4250.
