$10 1861 Demand Note
One of the RAREST NOTES
The demand note was created by necessity due to the Civil war thru the leadership of Salmon P. Chase.
During the war the gold and silver hoarding caused problems with the flow of commerce. Chase realized there was a need for Federal Currency to allow the commerce to continue during wartime.
Demand notes were printed in $5's, $10's and $20's. FIRST LARGE SIZE CURRENCY ISSUED
Also called the "Green back because of the rich green color on the reverse. The front of this note has beautiful green coloring with a vignette of Abraham Lincoln of the left side. the reverse has a large numeral X at the center of the denomination.
Note grades PCGS VERY FINE 30 with comments; discoloration on back; signatures faded; minor restoration.
Regardless of the grade, demand notes are scarce.
