Mount Clemens, FNB, 12971 Fr. 609 $5 1902ND Uncut Sheet
Even Albert A Grinnel didn't own one--and he chased uncut sheets from his home state with especial vigor. Mt. Clemens is the only county seat for Macomb County. It rose to prominence immediately after the Civil War when the therapeutic properties were discovered in the city's mineral springs. By the 1920s, stars of stage and screen traveled to the city for treatment and relaxation. This sheet is formerly from the National Bank of Detroit Coin and Currency Museum. Full selvedge on all margins, with crisp signatures of both bank officials. This sheet is one of two known; long ago we sold the other one for $15, 180. We anticipate considerably higher realization from this piece.
Recent Auction Estimate to $30,000.
