UNCUT PAIR of GIORI EXPERIMENTAL NOTES
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) released 'canceled' portions of authentic plates to test a high speed press designed by the Italian firm Giori. Specimens from the 1972 experiment were never intended to be released to the public.
The front contains portraits of Lincoln, Washington, and Grant -- extracted from the $1, $5, and $50 denominations. 'United States of America' (from the verso of the $5) at the top. The Lincoln Memorial is the central vignette with components from the $1.
Our firm recently acquired six uncut vertical pairs and takes tremendous pride offering them to the collecting community.
